Comparison

Do you actually need a card?

Quite often the answer is no, and we would rather tell you that now than sell you a program you did not need. Here is how to work out which side of the line you are on.

The short answer: under about 25 hours a year, charter on demand. Over it, a card usually pays for itself in certainty rather than in rate.

What a card buys you is not primarily a discount. It is the removal of a negotiation from every trip, a set of terms that do not move, and availability you can rely on. Whether that is worth pre-committing depends far more on how much you value your own time than on the hourly arithmetic.

Two columns

What each one is actually like.

The Velocity Jet Card

For 25–150 hours a year

  • Availability guaranteed on agreed notice
  • Fixed, known terms on every trip
  • One call — no quoting cycle, no comparison
  • No Velocity peak-day surcharge, no overnight or wait fees
  • Unflown hours always refundable
  • One number, answered 24/7

The trade: you pre-commit funds. With refundability that is a far smaller commitment than it sounds, but it is still capital placed ahead of flying.

The card in full

On-demand charter

For under 25 hours a year

  • No capital committed, ever
  • Priced per trip against the live market
  • Total flexibility on aircraft and category
  • Can be excellent value on a well-positioned aircraft
  • No term, no membership, no commitment
  • Same operators, same safety standard

The trade: a quoting cycle on every trip, prices that move with the market, and no guarantee of availability at peak demand.

Charter with us

A useful test

Three questions that settle it.

  1. Roughly how many hours will you fly next year?

Under 25 and charter is almost certainly right. Over 50 and a card starts to justify itself on certainty alone. Between the two, it comes down to the next two questions.

  2. How much notice do you usually have?

If your trips firm up weeks ahead, charter handles it comfortably. If you regularly decide on a Tuesday to fly on a Thursday — especially around holidays — guaranteed availability is worth pre-committing for.

  3. Who does the comparing today?

If it is you, and it takes an evening a trip, a card is buying back that evening several times a year. If someone in your office handles it and handles it well, that is a real reason to stay on demand.

A sensible way to find out

Charter with us two or three times first. No card, no commitment, no pressure — just book the trips you were going to take anyway and see how the service actually is when something goes wrong at an inconvenient hour, which is the only real test.

A number of current members did exactly that. It is a better way to evaluate a company than any comparison page, including this one.

Questions

Common questions

Do I need a jet card, or can I just charter?

If you fly fewer than about 25 hours a year, on-demand charter is usually the better answer: you tie up no capital, you pay only for what you fly, and you keep complete flexibility. A card starts to earn its place when you want guaranteed availability, fixed terms, and one relationship rather than a fresh negotiation on every trip.

Is on-demand charter more expensive per hour than a jet card?

Not necessarily, and sometimes the reverse. Charter is priced per trip against live market conditions, so a well-timed trip on a well-positioned aircraft can be excellent value. What you give up is predictability — the price and the availability are whatever the market is that week.

What does a jet card actually guarantee that charter does not?

Availability on agreed notice, a fixed and known set of terms, and the removal of a negotiation from every single trip. You are buying certainty and the absence of admin as much as you are buying flight hours.

Can I charter through Velocity Jets without buying a card?

Yes. Worldwide on-demand charter is a service in its own right and there is no requirement to hold a card. Many members chartered with us for a year or two first, which is a perfectly sensible way to find out whether a program suits you.
